If you were to use locking pliers on a polished piece of metal such as a shower ring, you could be certain it would leave some pretty serious scratches and gouges. But there is a way to use this tool without leaving those damaging marks!
Trick for Removing Glock Magazine Plate (to install Pearce Grip Extension) Have you been struggling to remove the base plate on your Glock magazine (it's called a 'magazine,' not a 'clip')? This simple trick will have them off in seconds, without causing any damage. Use a handheld deburring tool to smooth the edge of the hole as much as possible before you go to insert the grommet. Use as slow a drill speed as possible when you drill the hole, especially if it's a tough metal. This is especially important if you're using a drill bit that's larger than 1 ⁄ 8 inch (0.32 cm).
Take an old leather glove and cut off two fingers. Use these fingers as leather covers that you can slip over the serrated jaws of whatever tool you're using. You have just created a tool with a grip of steel… but with a velvet touch.

There is a pliers-like tool known as a molly setting tool, or molly setter, that can be used to expandmollies without the use of a screwdriver. The tool pulls the screw head straightout, expanding the legs. This tool is a real timesaver for a pro, but issomewhat expensive for the weekend molly installer!
It works in a similar fashion to apop rivet tool.
Perhaps the best reason to use this tool instead of ascrewdriver is there is no 'torsion' or twisting force on the molly head. The head of a molly bolt has two sharp points that dig into the drywall to holdit in place while you turn the screw. Unfortunately, turning the screwcan cause the molly to spin, especially if the installation point has beenrepaired before OR if you are installing the molly on a hard surface such as ona hollow-core door. With the tool, you can install a molly on most anysurface... drywall, wood or even metal! (On hard surfaces, you can bend thepoints inward to get a more flush fit.)
Want to buy a molly setter for yourself?
When you do a search, use the words 'polly setter' as well as 'molly setter'. One manufacturer calls their mollies 'pollys'. Must be a copyright or trademark issue!
